Veterinarian / Cat Friendly Veterinarian
Dr. Ortiz was born in Media and raised in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. He grew up helping his father, an immigrant from Mexico, and his mom with their mushroom business. From a young age Dr. Ortiz knew he wanted to be a veterinarian and this passion started with raising backyard chickens and ducks. His parents supported his passions in animal science, and accepted his pursuit in higher education.
Dr. Ortiz was a first generation college student earning his BS in Animal and Food Science from University of Delaware. His early experiences in veterinary care were with wild bird rescue and rehabilitation with Tri-State Bird Rescue in Newark, DE. From there he took his skills to Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned his DVM.
Dr. Ortiz’s first experience as a veterinary was as a general practitioner for Heart + Paw. It was here he took special interests in internal medicine, dermatology, and felines. He spent his entire time at Heart + Paw with “cat ladies” and “cat whisperers” as his staff, and honed his skills in caring for cats. Eventually it was his mission to work exclusively with feline companions.
In his free time, Dr. Ortiz spends his days hanging out with his fiancee, Beth, and their two dogs Archer and Maui. Dr. Ortiz is active in the Philly music scene with his band and other projects performing, mixing, and recording music. He also likes to sew and frequently attend concerts.
